Most homes in Akron and Canton Ohio are serviced by Ohio Edison / First Energy Ohio. Ohio Edison, like all other investor-owned utilities in Ohio, is required to offer their customers net metering.
First Energy’s Ohio Edison does offer net metering to clients who install solar panel systems. Net metering allows you to offset your electric consumption and get credits for excess energy produced.

Substantial incentives for solar specific to Ohio do not exist. Be weary of solar installation companies sales tactics telling you there are additional incentives for installing solar energy.
Under a new 2022 law, solar panel installations are allowable in HOA-governed areas unless specifically regulated in the bylaws or deeds.
After the passing of SB 61, HOAs are still able to “establish reasonable restrictions” on solar panels in their bylaws. So, there is still some wiggle room for HOAs to maintain solar restrictions. However, modifications to bylaws often entails obtaining approval from 75% of homeowners in the neighborhood.
