When Muskingum University (MU) wanted to establish solar installations across its campus, they turned to Kokosing Solar to assist them as a trusted partner to meet their sustainability goals.
Our most recent collaboration resulted in Kokosing Solar acting in EPC partnership with McCalmont Engineering for an 863.1kWdc solar array on the MU Health and Wellness Complex. The solar array was designed so that the modules outline the shape of a block “M” on the complex roof, adjacent to the football field. This unique layout was inspired by the iconic MU Athletic Department logo.
During the design phase of the new build, MU identified its Health and Wellness Complex as an ideal location for reducing electric bills and emissions while showcasing its sustainability initiatives to its students, alums, and the wider community.
The project is structured as a Power Purchase Agreement. MU engaged an investor to leverage the federal investment tax credit and federal depreciation benefits, reducing the overall system cost. After a pre-defined payback period, the University will become the owner and operator of the system.
“We have installed solar across the campus in the past: at the recreation center, library, art gallery, and at the president’s residence. In this case, it made a lot of financial sense. In a period of rising energy costs, it’s a great way to both help the environment and our finances.” – Phillip Laube, Asst to the President for Special Projects and Investments.
