New Certification for Third Sun Solar Staff

Third Sun Solar Designer Randall Hatch Gains New NABCEP Certification

Solar Installation Firm Now Has Six NABCEP Certificate Holders on Staff

Athens, Ohio—Randall Hatch, who serves as Quality & Process Manager in the Operations Department of Third Sun Solar, this week became one of the first solar professionals to pass the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Photovoltaic (PV) Technical Sales Exam. This achievement marks a distinctive achievement for Mr. Hatch, as he becomes one of the small circle of such certification holders in the nation.

This certification brings the number of NABCEP certificate holders employed by Third Sun Solar to six—the most of any Ohio-based solar design/install firm.

NACBEP’s new certification has been developed to ensure quality assurance throughout the entire sales process and, as such, offer consumers a new level of confidence when they seek quotations, proposals, and energy and financial production estimates for potential solar electric projects.

To earn his NABCEP certification, Randy Hatch was required to demonstrate thorough knowledge of subjects as diverse as qualifying the customer; site analysis; conceptual design; financial costs, incentives, and savings; financial benefit analysis and financing; non-financial benefit analysis; performance analysis; and proposal preparation. In addition to passing the exam, NABCEP-Certified Technical Sales Professionals are often required to show that they have real-world experience as a lead person on a sales team as well as have a minimum number of hours of advanced training.

“One thing you can be assured of with NABCEP-Certified PV Technical Sales Professionals is that your sale won’t be their first,” said Ezra Auerbach, executive director of NABCEP. “Anyone who makes the considerable effort required to earn NABCEP PV Technical Sales Certification has been required to document their experience and education as part of the eligibility process. They have also made a very real commitment to upholding high standards of ethical and professional practice. We are delighted to welcome Randy Hatch of Third Sun Solar to the ranks of the industry’s new standard for sales professionals.”

With Ohio’s emerging clean energy industry very much in the news, it is noteworthy that firms like Third Sun Solar are continuing to grow, continuing to hire, and continuing to deepen their skills. Increasing numbers of homeowners, business owners, institutional directors, and municipal managers are learning about solar energy systems and installing such systems; solar advantages can include long-term low-cost/no-cost electricity; better energy security; a more stable energy grid; and a much cleaner environment. In immediate terms, the growing clean energy industry translates directly into jobs for Ohio workers.
